Since 2017 HBLP has been investigating the bioactive qualities of kānuka. With so much kānuka growing on Māori land blocks in the Waiapū Valley, it made sense to find out more about kānuka as both an environmental asset and an economic opportunity.

HBLP has been working with a number of researchers and scientific organisations to explore the commercial potential of kānuka products, and to understand more about the scientific and medical properties of kānuka oil. These resources are some of the outcomes that we have achieved over the past few years.
